March Program - Bellevue Waste Management and Membership Discussion

Please join us for Green Bellevue's March Program on Zoom on March 14th at 1:30. This month, we will be checking out information from the City of Bellevue and Dale Gubbels of Firstar Fiber regarding waste management. We will also be discussing and voting on a bylaws change to clarify and update membership in Green Bellevue.

First we will hear information from the City of Bellevue on Bellevue solid waste collection recycling. They will help tell the story of what happened when Bellevue did a new waste contract that included large lid covered recycling containers.

Dale Gubbels is CEO and president of Firstar Fiber, the recycling company that processes the City of Bellevue’s recyclables. His talk will cover where residents’ recyclables go, how recycling has changed in the past 40 years and his thoughts on the challenges and opportunities we face if we continually fail to acknowledge our planet has every right and capability to serve our species with an eviction notice.

In addition to the waste management program, we will also have a membership discussion. The Green Bellevue Board of Directors is proposing the following bylaws revisions for 'Article III - Members.' Reasons for the proposed revisions are to:

  • open membership to all and not confine membership eligibility by geographical boundaries;

  • simplify membership to 'dues paying members only' for ease in tracking and maintaining a membership list;

  • create more leniency around the annual meeting; and

  • create clarity around quorum at a meeting of the members.

A discussion and vote on these proposed bylaws revisions will occur at the meeting. Please attend to join the discussion and add your vote!
