The Bee City USA committee is on a course to increase the abundance of native plants, provide nest sites and reduce the use of pesticides through partnering with residents, businesses, schools, utilities and government to educate our community about the why, what and how to protect Bees and insects. This series is designed to empower individuals with the knowledge to cultivate native plant gardens right in their own backyards. Each session will explore a different topic to help you create and maintain a thriving native plant garden! Join us on this journey to reconnect with nature and create a haven for biodiversity in your own backyard.

Milkweed & Cookies - Vendor Fair & Native Plant Giveaway
SAVE THE DATE! Pollinator Alliance of the Heartland is hosting their second annual Milkweed and Cookies event at Bellevue University! They will have a sign-up available soon for the first 150 households to receive a FREE 12-pack of native plants designed for either a Shade or Sun Garden. There will be vendors and optional presentations that you may attend to learn more about native plant gardening. This event is family-friendly, so make sure to plan to attend! 9/11 Day of Service - Bellevue Bee City USA Garden Maintenance
Green Bellevue Bee City USA leaders will meet volunteers at the First Interstate Bank on Galvin Road and review the skills and number of people for appropriate assignments. Then we will divide volunteers among the leaders and give directions to head to nearby designated parks. The work will include weeding, edging, mulching, planting & tidying up the gardens. There will be something for all skill levels and abilities. Sign up here!

Green Bellevue Meeting - OPPD Update
Please join us for an update from OPPD's Sustainability Program Manager, Bridget Slavin. Bridget will be presenting an overview of OPPD's business unit on Sustainability that was created in 2023. She will also share about Greener Together, a program that connects community members and supports green initiatives, as well as some of the initiatives they plan to implement across their facilities.
In her role, Bridget supports the development and implementation of OPPD’s sustainability strategy by developing strategic initiatives in support of specific carbon and cost/avoidance goals. Before moving into her current role in 2023, Bridget was a Sustainability Manager for Valmont Industries. Bridget holds a bachelors in Sustainable Energy Technology and Business Administration from Creighton University. She is also a resident of Bellevue.

Walk with us in the Arrows to Aerospace parade and share Green Bellevue’s initiatives with thousands of residents!

Be in our lineup spot close to 9:30 am. Allow time for parking, walking and finding GB’s position.
The parade route begins at Bert Murphy, travels along Mission Ave., turns left at Franklin St., and ends at the street north of Washington Park.
What we do:
· hold banners
· hand out leaflets
· roll 2 Earth Balls with the kids in attendance
· and pick up trash and recycling (we are good role models!)

BNPS Annual Bellevue Pollinator Party
This annual event is organized by our partner, Bellevue Native Plant Society. Learn about pollinators and work being done in our community to help them! Kids can enjoy some free pollinator face painting and craft activities while the grown-ups can browse native plants for sale, learn about local orgs, and hang out with other cool adults!

Green Bellevue Meeting
Join our monthly meeting at Bellevue University with special guest Dr. David Corbin who will lead a discussion on Omaha’s activity around plastic bag bans and going plastic free. The Plastic Free Foundation's Plastic Free July tackles plastic pollution with a month-long challenge that aims to encourage consumers to refuse single-use plastics and incorporate more sustainable alternatives into their lives.

Pollinator Week
Pollinator Week is an annual celebration in support of pollinator health that was initiated and is managed by Pollinator Partnership. It is a time to raise awareness for pollinators and spread the word about what we can do to protect them. Pollinator Week has grown into an international celebration, promoting the valuable ecosystem services provided by bees, birds, butterflies, bats, beetles, moths, wasps, and flies. People across the planet have pledged to continue promoting pollinator health and well-being through their Pollinator Week events. We invite you to take the Green Bellevue Bee City USA Pollinator Protector Pledge to join the ranks of informed and active citizens creating an abundance of habitats!
Fontenelle Forest and the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum presents “Native Plant Sale”
By planting native trees, shrubs, grasses, and perennials from the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, you are helping to keep our local environment healthy, free of harmful invasive species, and attract helpful insects such as butterflies and bees. Check out the selection of native plants, and learn more from Fontenelle Forest’s staff about the importance of native plants and our restoration efforts!

Farmers Market Opening + Zero Waste Recognition Picnic
Join us at the Bellevue Farmers Market for our annual Zero Waste Recognition Picnic. You can shop on your own between 8am - 12pm and then join us at 12pm at the gazebo with a sack lunch (or buy some food at the market!). We’ll present Environment Champion Awards and recognize our speakers, sponsors, committee leaders and more! The event is expected to be over by approx 1:30pm.
